The place infra engineers level up
From helpdesk and Windows admin to senior infrastructure engineer — one daily habit at a time.
ShellQuest exists because most infrastructure learning doesn't stick. Videos you forget, certifications that test recall, tutorials that go stale, and nothing that teaches you to think clearly when something is on fire.
So we built the opposite: short, daily, scenario-based practice that builds real troubleshooting judgement. You start with the universal core — Linux and networking — and level up across scripting and automation, Windows, cloud and SRE. The goal is simple: in ten minutes you should learn something you can use at work, and want to come back tomorrow.
Who it's for
Helpdesk engineers who want to move up. Junior sysadmins finding their feet. Windows admins learning Linux (and vice-versa). Homelabbers, career-switchers, and experienced engineers who want a sharp daily rep and a way to fill the gaps. If you get paged, or want to be the person who does, ShellQuest is for you.
How we build content
Every lesson has one clear objective, a real-world reason it matters, an interactive question, a scenario that tests judgement, and a strong explanation when you get it wrong. Concepts are tagged so weak areas resurface through spaced repetition. It's a deliberate standard, not a content swamp.
Who's behind it
ShellQuest is built by infrastructure engineers, not a content farm — people who've done the on-call rotations, run the Windows and Linux estates, and learned these lessons the hard way. The mission is to package that hard-won judgement into something you'd actually enjoy practising.
What we stand for
Scenarios, not trivia
Real engineers don't get quizzed on definitions at 3am. Nearly everything in ShellQuest is a realistic situation: read the output, weigh the evidence, choose the safe move.
Judgement over memorisation
We teach why the tempting wrong answer is wrong and what an experienced engineer checks first — the mental models, not just the commands.
Accurate, and reviewed
Content is written and checked by people who've actually run infrastructure. If something's wrong, there's a report button, and we fix it fast.
No ninja nonsense
No "become a DevOps wizard in 7 days". Just serious training, gamified enough to be addictive and keep you coming back.
Honest pricing
A free tier that's genuinely useful, a Pro tier that's obviously better, and no fake scarcity or dark patterns.
Privacy by default
